Genetics Services Webshop Information and FAQs

Welcome to our WebShop enabling you to order DNA testing kits for Animal Health Trust Genetic Tests.

The WebShop provides a convenient and efficient way to place your order on-line. But it is important to follow the steps correctly and we have put together a list of Frequently Asked Questions to guide you through.

Please note that the WebShop is designed to work with Internet Explorer 8 and later versions of Internet Explorer but not with some earlier versions, such as Internet Explorer 6. Internet Explorer 6 may display some pages incorrectly and may show tests which can only be done on cheek swabs as requiring a blood sample. Please contact your Internet Provider if you have an earlier version (Internet Explorer 6 or earlier) for advice on updating.

FAQs

How do I select a test?

On the Welcome page, click to select canine, feline or other test. At Step 1 select the breed from the drop-down menu. At Step 2 (Select Test) click on the plus (+) sign next to the test you want to add to your Shopping Basket. Each time you click another test will be added to the basket. The item added will be shown under the heading My Basket on the right-hand side of he screen.

What is a WebShop account number?

The first time that you use the WebShop you must set up a WebShop account - this will be a different account from any account that you may have had previously with the Animal Health Trust. Once you have set up your WebShop account, you can use that account every time that you use the WebShop. Don't forget to store the password in a safe place.

How do I enter details for my dog and for myself?

On the My Account page, click on Checkout Now (top right of the screen) to go to Step 3 Animal Info.

What should I enter for the dog's name?

A name, either the registered name or a pet name, must be entered or we cannot issue a result. For new born litters, where names are not yet available, please enter a short description that will enable you to identify that pup when you receive the result. When your litter is registered complete a change of details form (available from dnatesting@aht.org.uk) and we will re-issue results with the new details free-of-charge. Make sure you complete all details for all dogs. Please check the details are correct because you may not be able to change the details later.

When I click on Next Step I get a Page Unavailable message?

If you have not completed the details fully, you may not be able to proceed to the next page. Please go back and check all the dog's details are there.

What should I enter on the Veterinary Info page?

We will send you a copy of your report direct to your veterinary surgeon if you complete details on the page. We will provide reports either by post, fax or e-mail - please check the appropriate box on the page. Please make sure you complete the full postal address, email address or fax number (depending on how you have asked for us to send the report), or we will not be able to send the report.

Do I need to go to my vet?

Not necessarily - unless a blood sample is required for the test. However, some Breed Clubs and Registration Authorities will only accept results for DNA tests if a veterinary surgeon confirms the identity of the dog. When we send updates of results to these Clubs we will indicate, at their request, which samples were validated by a veterinary surgeon. Please check with your Breed Club or Kennel Club whether this will apply to your sample.

What should I enter on the Check Out page?

If the billing address and the shipping address are the same then you need only enter the details once. Please select how you would like the report to be sent to you, by fax, e-mail or post, by checking one of the boxes. Make sure that you have included the appropriate address or fax number to send the report to, or we will be unable to send the results to you. You must tick the box accepting our Terms and Conditions before proceeding to the next page.

How long will the kits take to arrive?

The kits will be sent within two working days.

What is in the kits?

Each kit will be contained in a plastic bag, together with instructions (which are available in many European languages), a Request for DNA Testing form with the details that you have entered in the WebShop (which should be signed by the same person who ordered the kit on the WebShop) and a paper envelope. Please follow the instructions exactly otherwise we will not be able to process your sample and will have to send you another kit.

How do I take the swabs?

Full instructions are given with the kit. Please make sure that you return only the swabs inside the paper envelope provided (having written the dog's name on the envelope) but do not put any paperwork in that envelope.
