Canine Parentage Analysis
What is parentage analysis?
Canine parentage testing depends on the fact that every dog inherits 2 copies of every gene and DNA marker, one from the dam and one from the sire.
Parentage is confirmed or excluded by comparing the profiles generated from the dam and the sire with the puppies.
Results of parentage analysis are reported as an animal either QUALIFING as a parent or being EXCLUDED as a parent.
When a parent Qualifies there are the required DNA marker matches for that animal to be a parent of the pup being tested.
When a parent is Excluded it means that the markers present in the pup mean it can not be result of the supplied mating.
Analysis is based on the samples supplied, and the mating matches we are told at the time of submitting.
When submitting samples for parentage analysis we require samples for the Dam, possible sire(s) and it is recommended that all puppies are tested. Especially if there is the possibility of a split litter as this will confirm the father of each puppy.
Due to the additional information required to perform parentage analysis this cannot currently be ordered through our web shop.
